EACH ISLAND IS DIFFERENT – AND THERE ARE SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM!!
Visualise paradise, on the beach or overwater villas. Spectacular, pristine white sand beaches. Swaying palm trees. Endless turquoise waters. Open your eyes and you will be in Maldives. Maldives is in the Indian Ocean southwest of India consisting of 26 breath-taking atolls boasting with rich natural treasures and cultural traditions. The sovereign archipelago nation is home to 1192 coral islands and sandbanks. 200 islands are inhabited and 100 are with tourist resorts.
The tiny islands are surrounded by magnificent beaches and amazingly beautiful lagoons, crystal clear waters and protected by reef structures. Every resort in the Maldives is built on its own private, picture-perfect palm island. Most of the islands are occupied by the world’s most exclusive hotel brands. All these resorts offer guests unparalleled levels of mind-blowing luxury.
A holiday in the Maldives can be easily combined with a stay in Sri Lanka (one hour flight) as there are many direct flights between the two countries.

How to get there
Many of Maldives’ resorts are within an hour seaplane or boat ride from Maldives’ main airport Velana International Airport (Also known as Male or MLE in short). It is located in the North Male Atoll near the capital Male. The airport is served by many European and Asian international airlines and some charter flights as well.

A 2nd international airport has opened in recent years and it is called Gan International Airport situated in the southern atolls. It is mainly a domestic hub but also gets international flights from Colombo. If you are staying at the Sangri-La Villingili resort, flying to Gan is best because the resort is 15 min boat ride away. THE WEATHER IS DIFFICULT TO PREDICT
Online, I read that the wettest month in the Maldives is September but the locals say it’s June/July. Either way, it’s pretty hard to predict the weather.
Each island has its own climate, so if it’s raining on one island, it won’t necessarily be raining on an another that’s 20 km away. Because of this, every weather forecast sticks to the standard rainy season prediction: Dry until 3pm, rain for the rest of the day.
The smaller the island, the harder it is to find a weather forecast online.
LOW SEASON IS THE TIME TO GO
High season starts in October and prices increase dramatically, almost double.
Kurumba Maldives
(The First Maldives Resort)
Tourism: an industry that brought prosperity and progress to the Maldives. It began with Kurumba’s opening in 1972. At the time, this remote archipelago, inhabited only by fisher folk, was unknown to the outside world, with no foreign investment.
A short journey
Boat transfer is available from the airport to the resort for when you arrive, about 10-15 minutes. It would be helpful if you or your travel agent could forward the resort your flight details before hand to ensure a smooth transfer.
